‘Teenager hit by car’ as police block main road after ‘serious’ accident

A teenager was reportedly hit by a car on a main road in Oldham on Tuesday night (May 21). Emergency services rushed to the scene of the “serious” accident on the roundabout, at the busy junction between Rochdale Road, King Street and Middleton Road.

The road was closed after the collision, as was the roundabout, outside Oldham leisure centre. It is understood the teenager, believed to be a pedestrian, was hit at around 8pm.

He was rushed to hospital from the scene. Greater Manchester Police have not confirmed any further details about his condition but the Serious Collision Investigation Unit is believed to be leading the investigations.

A witness who worked nearby told the Manchester Evening News that the pedestrian was hit “while crossing the street,” and emergency services flooded the area moments later.

A live traffic update from Inrix said: “A671 Rochdale Road closed due to police incident on A627 St Domingo Street. At roundabout.” Buses were also diverted late into the night amid the incident.

The road remained closed for several hours to carry out investigation work. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
