Woman armed with multiple weapons shoots officer; police shoot and kill woman

GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) – A woman is dead after a shooting involving a Gastonia Police Department police officer Saturday afternoon in Gastonia, according to officials.

Police say they responded to a violent call related to domestic matters around 1:20 pm in the 400 block of South King Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were greeted by a woman armed with multiple firearms and witnesses claim they heard police yell at her to “drop your weapons” several times.

Police say the woman began confronting officers and shot one of them several times in the leg.

The officer and others then returned fire, killing the woman.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Gaston County District Attorney Travis Page was on the scene; He and GPD Police Chief Trent Conard asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to investigate.
