Wednesday Ozone Alert for E. Mass.

Due to the elevated ozone levels expected in our area tomorrow, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has issued an air quality alert beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in effect until 11 p.m. May 2024, in seven Massachusetts counties. Ozone levels are expected to impact air quality tomorrow in the eastern counties of Hampden and Hampshire, as well as the counties of Worcester, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. Air quality is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include people with heart or lung diseases, such as asthma, older adults, children, teenagers, and people who are active outdoors. People with lung or heart diseases are at higher risk of exposure to air pollution.

MassDEP advises people in sensitive groups to reduce prolonged or intense outdoor exertion, take more breaks, engage in less intense activities, follow asthma action plans, and have quick-relief medications on hand. Watch for symptoms such as cough or difficulty breathing.

More details, including forecasts and real-time data, are available on MassDEP’s MassAir Online site.

WHEN: From 11 am to 11 pm, Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
