The 2024 Baseball campaign ends in the NCAA Regional

Marshall, Texas – In the second round of the NCAA Regional, the Concordia Texas baseball team was outplayed in a pair of matchups against ETBU and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Tornados fell 7-3 against the Tigers and 6-5 against the Staggs at Woods Field on Saturday.

vs. ETBU, loss 7-3

The Tornados got on the scoreboard first when Chris Morrow hit an RBI single down the right field line to score Julian Swift at the bottom of the first. The Tigers tied the score with a solo home run in the top of the second. They then took a 4-1 lead with three more runs in the inning.

The Tornados cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the frame on Swift’s RBI single to score. Matthew Armas. After scoreless frames in the third and fourth, the Tigers made it a 6-2 game with one run each in the fifth and sixth.

The Tigers then hit their fourth solo home run of the game to increase their lead to 7-2 in the eighth. Threatening to add another run with two outs, an ETBU batter hit the ball deep into left field, but Brandon Goynes He made a spectacular catch to steal the home run.

Looking for a rally, Swift led off in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single to score Goynes from second. This would be the last streak of the game, as the Tigers would hold on for the win.

vs. Claremont MS, loss 6-5

The Stags scored three runs in the top of the fourth and another two in the sixth.

The Tornados got on the scoreboard in the seventh when catcher Efren Sanchez Jr. hit a two-RBI double down the left field line to score Brayden Pick and Goynes. They then made it a 5-3 game when Seigrist surrounded Sanchez Jr. with an RBI double.

Later in the frame, Concordia loaded the bases. Samuel Ortiz He then walked and Seigrist tied the game at 5 with a run on a wild pitch. Claremont loaded the bases with just one out in the top of the eighth and regained the lead at 6-5. This would be the last race of the game as the Staggs would survive in the elimination game.
