Mattress on I-65 causes fire on I-65 in Greenwood

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Indiana State Police remind drivers to secure their belongings safely after a loose mattress caused a fire on Interstate 65 in Greenwood Wednesday morning.

According to Sgt. John Perrine with ISP, the mattress caused the truck to catch fire on I-65 near Main Street, forcing rush hour traffic to be limited to one southbound lane for several hours.

“Secure your cargo, especially if it’s a mattress; rope rarely secures a mattress to the top of a car, especially on the interstate,” Perrine said in a Facebook post.

Both right lanes of southbound I-65 are still closed as of 10 a.m.
