PennDOT Accepting Applications for Its Pedestrian and Bicyclist Focused Committee

(WJET/WFXP) – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is now accepting applications to join one of its committees.

PennDOT announced Thursday that they were officially inviting enthusiastic people to apply for the Pedal Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (PPAC) from now until June 6.

The PPAC advises and comments on all aspects of cycling and pedestrian activities, ensuring that everyone is safe on the roads, not just vehicles and motorcycles.

“This critical committee provides guidance on policies and programs for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout the Commonwealth,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “For the sake of our most vulnerable road users, it is crucial that we continue PennDOT’s diligent work on sidewalks, bike lanes and trails, applying our expertise as transportation professionals with the same care we put on roads and bridges.”

Committee members will serve a three-year term. While it must meet at least once a year, PennDOT said the committee typically meets quarterly and offers the option to attend meetings virtually.

PennDOT will review submitted applications, but they are subject to approval by Governor Shapiro.

PennDOT also noted that PPAC members should strive to educate themselves about applicable laws, transportation standards and innovations, financing, and other policy issues that affect transportation needs.

Applications can be submitted on the PennDOT website.
