465 ramp closures

INDIANAPOLIS – Ramp closures on I-465 will occur at the end of the month.

The closures will extend from Pendleton Pike to Emerson Avenue, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.


Work will begin May 31 and will include pavement restoration, bridge deck patching and joint repair. Monday through Friday, southbound I-465 will be reduced to three lanes between 46th Street and the I-465/I-70 interchange; The capacity will be reduced to two lanes on weekends.

Here’s a look at the affected ramps and closure dates:

  • Pendleton Pike east and west to I-465 southbound (5/30 at 9 pm)
  • I-70 eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound (May 31 at 7 p.m.)
  • Washington St./US 40 east and west to I-465 southbound (May 31 at 9 a.m.)
  • Brookville Rd./US 52 east and west to I-465 southbound (May 31 at 9 a.m.)
  • Shadeland Ave. southbound to I-465 southbound (June 1 at 9am)
  • Southeastern Ave./Old US 421 to I-465 southbound (June 1 at 9 am)
  • I-74 westbound to I-465 southbound (June 1 at 9 a.m.)
  • Emerson Ave. northbound and southbound to I-465 westbound (June 1 at 9 a.m.)

The restrictions are expected to last until the end of June. The recommended detour is I-70 westbound to I-65 southbound.

This is the second part of a six-phase project focused on restoration work on this section of I-465. Work is expected to be completed in spring 2025.

The work schedule is subject to change, INDOT said. The agency reminded drivers to slow down in work zones and pay attention to changes in traffic patterns.
