Florida City Considered Best Place to Live in America: Where Do Other Cities Compare?

The Sunshine State is home to the city that just earned the title of best place to live in the US.

That development comes as US News & World Report on Tuesday identified Naples, which is located on the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, as the top city to reside in its “2024-2025 Best Places to Live” report.

Scoring well in the job market and quality of life categories helped Naples achieve that feat, beating out 149 other major U.S. cities that also appeared on the list, the outlet said. In last year’s ranking, Naples was ranked number 6.

There were some changes to the way US News & World Report created its “Best Places to Live” list compared to previous years that resulted in some reorganizations.

The outlet said it began analyzing “city-based data” instead of “metropolitan-based data.” Value and labor market measures, two of the four main categories it uses for its analysis, also received more emphasis.

Value, job market and quality of life metrics played a major role in Idaho’s capital city, Boise, ranking second for 2024-2025, according to US News & World Report.

Colorado Springs, Colorado; Greenville, South Carolina; and Charlotte, North Carolina, also appeared among the report’s five highest-ranking cities, according to the report.

In sixth place was Raleigh, North Carolina, the outlet said.

Huntsville, Alabama’s largest city, ranked No. 7 for best places to live. US News and World Report also found it to be the second most affordable city it analyzed.

The outlet placed Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Austin, Texas, in eighth and ninth place, respectively. The latter city, which performed well in terms of desirability and labor market, previously ranked first between 2017 and 2019.

While the South had a significant presence in the top 10, the state of Colorado had a second city that completed part of the ranking: Boulder, according to the report.

“Growing concerns about career prospects, housing affordability, and the rising cost of goods and services are reflected in this year’s rankings. While quality of life remains the top priority for many Americans, value of a city and the job market are increasingly important to those looking for a place to live,” US News & World Report reporter and loan expert Erika Giovanetti said in a statement.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently said that the United States as a whole had an unemployment rate of 3.9% in April.

Meanwhile, Americans faced an average monthly housing payment of $2,894 for the four weeks ending May 5, according to Redfin. That marked an “all-time high,” the company said.
