Severe thunderstorms in MA: lightning and heavy rain incoming

MASSACHUSETTS – Warm temperatures will continue Thursday, but will carry the risk of severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening, according to forecasts.

Downpours, thunder and lightning were already falling around 6 a.m., but the most impactful storms will arrive around noon, according to the National Weather Service. The risk of lightning and heavy rain could continue across the state until around 8 p.m.

Thursday’s storms are part of a series of severe weather conditions coming from the Midwest. A cold front will hit the state this afternoon, colliding with warm air.

Temperatures on Thursday will reach 80 degrees across central and eastern Massachusetts. Temperatures will be much lower on the Cape, only reaching the mid-60s.

The good news: Thursday is the only day this week when rain or thunderstorms are forecast. Most of the state should see sunshine and temperatures in the 80s on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The chance of rain returns on Memorial Day.
