Warm temperatures arrive in Phoenix area

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — It’s sunny and hot in the Valley today, with a high of 97 degrees, which is about normal for this time of year in Phoenix. Winds should remain fairly light most of the day, with an afternoon breeze of winds near 15 miles per hour from the southwest.

Several troughs of low pressure continue to move westward, most remaining too far north to impact Arizona. A trough currently off the coast of California will move inland tomorrow and pass through Arizona on Friday night. This will bring an increase in wind speeds across the state on Friday and Saturday, along with a slight cooldown on Saturday.

In the Valley, temperatures drop from a high of 98 degrees on Friday to 91 degrees on Saturday. No rain is expected with this system or at any time during the next seven days.

High pressure is expected to build over our region next week, leading to some of the warmest temperatures of the year so far. Memorial Day will bring the return of triple digits, and it looks like they will remain for much of next week, if not longer. June appears to be hot and dry. Expect a high of 102 degrees on Monday, and temperatures will rise to 105 degrees on Wednesday.
