Police officer injured in Sydney CBD stabbing

A police operation is underway in the Sydney CBD after a New South Wales police officer was allegedly stabbed on Elizabeth Street.

The officer was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening head injuries.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further assessment.

The incident was reported around 1:30 p.m.

A large police presence was seen on Elizabeth Street in Hyde Park, near Bathurst Street.

NSW Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.

A second crime scene has been established at the intersection of nearby Castlereagh Street and Park Street.

As a result, several roads are closed in the CBD.

Park Street is closed in both directions between Pitt Street and Elizabeth Street, and Castlereagh Street is closed southbound at Market Street.

Two lanes are closed on Elizabeth Street, including the bus lane, between Bathurst Street and Liverpool Street.

Drivers are advised to take alternative routes through the city and follow the instructions of emergency services.

Several bus routes were rerouted in the city, missing numerous stops, including routes 311, 320, 324, 325, 389, 441, 500X, 504 and 506.
